Fun and Easy DIY Home Ideas for Rainy Days in South Bend | Cressy & Everett

Few things are worse than having plans for an active outing, only to be met with cloudy, rainy weather that puts a damper on your planned excursion. Fortunately, bad weather doesn't have to equal a boring day. Our real estate agents recommend a fun, DIY project that the whole family can participate in to make the most of a rainy day. Here are a few easy options for your family to consider.

  • Declutter and Organize Your Pantry and Fridge (and Then Do Some Recipe Planning and Cooking)
If your kitchen is seemingly overflowing with food, but you never have anything your family wants to eat, your fridge, pantry, and cabinets likely need to be decluttered and organized.

Start by throwing anything that's out-of-date or obviously too old to eat (like ancient leftovers, stale chips, and moldy produce). Next, trash or donate food items that no longer fit your or your family's dietary needs or food preferences (think flavors or varieties you don't like, old supplements, or canned goods you won't use).

Put the remaining items back, organizing them in a way that makes sense for your household. For example, some individuals prefer to organize by food type, while others opt to house items based on color or size.

At this point, the only items that should be left are foods that your family will eat. Brainstorm potential recipes to utilize the remaining items, especially if you discover you have a large quantity of a specific food.

  • Plan a Home Renovation Project
Have a space in your home that feels like it isn't being used to its fullest potential? Gather your household and explore ideas for making the room more usable.

If your plans involve listing your home with other South Bend homes for sale, a space with a defined purpose can even make your home more appealing to prospective buyers. A new coat of paint and a few new pieces of furniture or decor go a long way in changing the look and feel of a room.

During the planning phase, you might take measurements, explore different colors and finishes, research furniture and electronic options, or set a budget and timeline for the project.

  • Create a Piece of Art for Your Home
A piece of artwork crafted by your entire family is an excellent project you can easily personalize to your home's space and decor. One idea is to paint or draw a mural, with each family member creating their own section.

Or, you might make a collage with items representing your family, like old photos and mementos. If you prefer a more cohesive piece of art, you can use painter's tape to create a design on a canvas; then, your family members can paint or color designated sections.

A rainy day in South Bend doesn't have to be boring and unproductive. Instead, tackle one of these DIY projects to ensure you feel accomplished at the end of the day. Interested in a home with more space for family activities? Contact us to start your search.
