Baby it's cold outside, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to do! South Bend is full of activities during the colder months, both inside and out. Here are a few attractions our real estate agents recommend checking out this winter.
- Ice Box Skating Rink — 1421 South Walnut St.
Voted the best ice rink in Indiana by Tripping.com, Ice Box is a year-round indoor skating rink with two separate skating surfaces. On their schedule, you'll find a variety of camps and classes, ice hockey leagues and games, figure skating, and freestyle skate times. Whether you're there to have fun, practice, or see a game, Ice Box is a perfect place to visit this winter.
- Ice Skating in Howard Park — 219 S. St. Louis Blvd.
Transform your skating experience when you go ice skating in Howard Park! In addition to a frozen pond for a more traditional ice skating experience, Howard Park offers an ice trail with gentle hills and turns. The pond also features a separate area for beginning skaters. Reserve your skating time online for guaranteed admission.
- South Bend Chocolate Company — 3300 W. Sample St.
Of course, we all love eating chocolate, but wouldn't you love to spend some time learning about how it's made, too? South Bend's local chocolate factory offers tours, where you can learn every step of the chocolate-making process, from panning to enrobing. Tour-goers also get to dip a chocolate spoon and enjoy a "test" chocolate at the end, too, of course. Next time it's too cold for an outdoor activity, head over to the South Bend Chocolate Company and get the "Inside Scoop."
- Morris Performing Arts Center — 211 N. Michigan St.
Known for the theater's 100-year history in South Bend, the Morris Performing Arts Center was originally named the Palace Theatre when it was first opened in 1922. The theater has come a long way since its vaudeville roots. Now you can see a variety of local and national shows, including the South Bend Symphony, Broadway shows, comedians, and concerts. Click here for a list of upcoming events.
- Studebaker National Museum — 201 Chapin St.
Celebrate an integral part of South Bend history with a visit to the Studebaker Museum this winter. Established after the Studebaker Corporation closed its doors in the 1960s, donating its collection and archives to the City of South Bend, the museum chronicles the rise and fall of one of America's great car companies. View the permanent collection, visit current exhibits, and attend special events. Learn about how the history of South Bend and the history of Studebaker are so deeply entwined with one another.
- Winter Days at the Potawatomi Zoo — 500 S. Greenlawn Ave.
The zoo is a favorite place to visit in the warmer months, but don't forget about it in the colder months! Many animals are more comfortable in winter temperatures, plus the smaller crowds are less likely to scare them. As a result, winter is an ideal time to go to the zoo if what you really want is to see the animals. The zoo has restricted hours in the winter, so check the schedule before heading over. Winter Days admission is free for zoo members.
