South Bend is a city full of local art and creativity. Here are some of the best venues to inspire your muse and see local art on display.

South Bend is a community that is rich in culture and not just modern or trendy culture. You'll find the influence of the arts everywhere in South Bend. Here are a few local art-based businesses our real estate agents recommend for the artsy at heart.

  • Idle Hours Bookshop - 212 S. Michigan St., South Bend
Are you a confirmed bookworm? If so, you'll love Idle Hours Bookshop. Specializing in used and rare books, this bookshop is every book lover's dream. You'll find the shop full of narrow aisles where you can lose yourself for hours, exploring towering shelves full of books of every kind. Idle Hours is open Monday through Friday from 11 am until 4 pm and Saturdays from 10 am until 3 pm.

  • Brain Lair Books - 1005 Portage Ave., South Bend
Brain Lair Books is also about the written word, but with an emphasis on community and inclusion. Instead of a crowded bookstore full of dusty possibilities, here you'll find bright, open spaces with books faced out so you can, in fact, judge them by their covers. Browse the selection, knowing that each title has been carefully selected to help you find your story. Brain Lair Books is open Wednesday through Friday from 11 am until 6 pm, and on the weekends from 11 am until 4 pm.

  • Morris Performing Arts Center - 211 N. Michigan St., South Bend
Do you love the visual treat of the theater over the quiet pursuit of a book? Originally built in 1922 as the Palace Theater, the theater originally hosted vaudeville shows and the occasional traveling Broadway troupe. Today the theater is the sparkling center of the South Bend arts community, with plays and musicals, ballets and dance shows, live music and comedy, and the South Bend Symphony.

  • South Bend Museum of Art - 120 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., South Bend
Do your tastes run toward the more visual arts? Fortunately, in South Bend, we have an amazing art museum. At the South Bend Museum of Art you'll find a strong community center with carefully curated art exhibits, community events, and a variety of art classes. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon until 5 pm and offers free gallery admission. Stop in next time you're touring South Bend homes for sale and see how much art our community has to offer.

  • Circa Arts Gallery - 528 E. Colfax, South Bend
Located in the East Bank Village neighborhood, Circa Arts Gallery helps you bring your favorite art home with you. This artsy shop combines local art with antiques, collectibles, and vintage clothing, all with a focus on Arts & Crafts style artisans. Circa Arts is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 am until 6 pm and Saturdays from 10 am until 4 pm.

  • United Art & Education - 5924 Grape Road, Mishawaka
If your thing is making art, then United Art & Education will be your home away from home. Located in nearby Mishawaka, this art store is geared toward artists and teachers. Here you'll find a wide variety of art materials, with everything you need for drawing, painting, ceramics, screen printing, and airbrushing. You'll even find matting supplies and frames. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am until 8 pm, and Sundays from 11 am until 6 pm.

The more you look at life in South Bend, the more you'll realize that art is part of who we are. For more information about our community or to start your search for your dream home in South Bend, contact us today.
