Dining out at a great Mexican restaurant is a weekly tradition for some. Here are the South Bend local Mexican restaurants you should visit.

Did you know February 24th is National Tortilla Chip Day? That's right, we have an entire day to celebrate this perfect, multipurpose food that acts as snack, appetizer, and a delivery vehicle for an entire meal topped with meat, guacamole, and queso. If you're like us and you'll take advantage of any excuse to eat tortilla chips, check out some of these Mexican restaurants in the South Bend area, all local favorites recommended by our real estate agents.

  • El Arriero Mexican Grill
    Located at 4505 Ameritech Drive, El Arriero is known for its top-notch Mexican food and fast, friendly service. The restaurant features a classy bar, cozy booths, and the look and feel of a traditional Mexican restaurant. Eat in and enjoy the atmosphere after visiting South Bend homes for sale, or order takeout with quick service to eat in the comfort of your own home. El Arriero is open Monday through Thursday from 11 am until 9 pm, Fridays from 11 am until 9:30 pm, Saturdays from noon until 9 pm, and Sundays from 11:30 am until 9 pm.

  • Los Aces Mexican Food
    Known locally for their authentic tacos, Los Aces is one of South Bend's treasures, located at 3622 Edison Road. Choose from tacos, nachos (for National Tortilla Chip Day!), burritos, quesadillas, and a variety of Mexican plates. Los Aces is open from 11 am until 9 pm Monday through Thursday, 10 am until 10 pm Friday and Saturday, and 10 am until 9 pm on Sundays.

  • La Esperanza
    If you're looking for a laid-back Mexican restaurant, check out La Esperanza. This Notre Dame favorite offers a variety of traditional Mexican dishes as well as other selections, such as salads, sandwiches, and burgers. Located at 1636 North Ironwood Drive in South Bend, La Esperanza is open from 11 am until 9 pm Sunday through Thursday, and 11 am until 10 pm Fridays and Saturdays.

  • Cinco 5 International
    If you like your tortilla chips with a bit of creative culinary flair, check out the fusion-style cuisine at Cinco 5. Located at 112 West Colfax Avenue in South Bend, Cinco 5 serves up a variety of chippy appetizers, such as chips and salsa or guacamole, and other traditional Mexican dishes such as sopes. The "International" part comes in when you realize their menu is actually a blend of Mexican and Thai cuisine, with other goodies such as fried tofu in the offering. Cinco 5 is open for lunch from 11 am until 2 pm Monday through Friday, and for dinner from 5 pm until 9 pm Tuesday through Saturday.

  • Los Humildes Mexican Restaurant
    Los Humildes is the perfect place if you really want to celebrate National Tortilla Chip Day, as they have a variety of chip appetizers to choose from: cheese dip, fresh guacamole, bean dip, and nachos. Main dishes include all of the usual suspects, such as tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, and quesadillas. Located at 112 West Colfax Avenue in South Bend, Los Humildes is open from 11am until 10pm Monday through Saturday, and 11 am until 9:30 pm on Sundays.

  • Taqueria Chicago
    Don't let the name fool you: Taqueria Chicago is located right here in South Bend, at 2920 West Western Avenue. If chips are what you're hungry for, choose between nachos, chips and guac, or chips and white cheese dip. After the chips are gone, enjoy a wide variety of traditional Mexican dishes such as tacos, tortas, enchiladas, chiles rellenos, fajitas, flautas, and gorditas. Taqueria Chicago also serves breakfast, with hours from 9 am until 10 pm Monday through Saturday, and 9 am until 9 pm on Sundays.
