Find New Inspiration With The Colors Of The Year
Every year, the big paint companies and interior design experts choose their colors of the year. This is about more than just decor and what you'll see in the trendiest South Bend homes for sale. The colors of the year also tend to reflect societal forces and changes. Here are the top colors for 2022, and everything they are intended to represent.
- Greens
Many of the colors that have been chosen as colors of the year are shades of green. The color is meant to reflect both where we've been in the past couple of years, and where we're going. During the pandemic, many people spent more time outside, enjoying nature and solitude as well as a safer way to socialize. Now that we're coming back inside, many of us are interested in bringing a bit of that natural surroundings inside with us. Decorating with greenery and house plants is one option, but these paint colors represent another. Choose from darker tones, such as Laurel Leaf by Better Homes and Gardens, or something bright and cheery, such as Guacamole by Glidden. If you're planning on selling your home, our real estate agents recommend a more neutral tone, such as the dark-but-muted Evergreen Fog by Sherwin-Williams, or the pale tones of October Mist by Benjamin Moore. - Blues
Several colors from the blue family also made an appearance on the list of the colors of the year. This color choice generally reflects our need for comfort and soothing spaces in our homes, which so many of us have spent more time in over the past two years. Blue is an efficient mood-setter, as is reflected in Aleutian by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams, a muted blue tone that is part of a larger collection called Softened Refuge. If you like blue but want to evoke a more lively mood, you might prefer the sea glass-colored blue-green of Breezeway by Behr. - Back to Basics
Reflecting the notion that in the coming year, we'll be seeking comfort and a safe haven at home, Dunn-Edwards named Art and Craft, with its rich chocolatey brown hue, as their color of the year. The thinking is similar to the goal behind the greens, which is to bring nature back into our homes with us, but this warm brown tone represents something else as well. It's also a traditional color, meant to evoke feelings of stability, calm, and the classic notions of hearth and home. - Something New
One might also say that after all we've been through in the last couple of years, 2022 is a year of new beginnings, earning a whole new color all its own. That was the thought behind Veri Peri, which Pantone created just for this year, and named it the color of the year. This rich color combines the soothing mood of the blues while mixing in a little excitement with a hint of purple and red tones. The result is a new creation that's different and a little exciting.
