South Bend is full of fun summer activities that are great for the whole family. Here's what you should try.

Summer is in full swing! If you're looking for stuff to do, you'll find plenty of exciting summer activities in South Bend. Our real estate agents love to live and work in South Bend in part because of the fantastic community and how much there is to do. Here are a few things we recommend to keep you busy during the long summer months.

  • Tour the parks with the #OnlyinTheBend Parks Pass
This mobile pass gives you the opportunity to explore all of South Bend's parks, many of them situated very near to South Bend homes for sale. Check in at each park throughout the summer and earn prizes as you cross each one off your list. Picnic at Battell Park, mountain bike your way through Bendix Woods Country Park, go white water rafting on the East Race Waterway, play disc golf at Ferrettie/Baugo Creek County Park, stay cool at the splash pads at Mary Gibbard and Potawatomi Parks, or treat your dog to an outing at the Rum Village Park dog park.

  • Eat well at South Bend Farmers Markets
South Bend has a thriving series of farmers markets throughout the summer. These aren't just for grocery shopping! In addition to the variety of fresh produce, eggs, meat, and baked goods, you'll also find treats like freshly popped popcorn, beautiful touches like fresh cut flowers, and even activities for the kids. At the popular South Bend Farmers Market, you can eat and recharge at the Farmers Market Cafe at the center of the market, or visit the Mishawaka Farmers Market and make a day of it, exploring the nearby parks and trails after leaving the market.

  • Entertain the whole family at Thistleberry Farm
For a day trip that will entertain the entire family, head over to Thistleberry Farm. This local attraction has all the things you would expect a farm to have, plus a few more. Get lost in the corn maze, pet the farm animals, follow the storybook walking trail, and hop on the cow train. For a couple of short weeks during the peak of summer, you can also enjoy the beauty of the sunflower field. Plus, enjoy various country fair type activities, such as pedal cars, duck races, jump pillows and pad, and a super slide! You can even pay a little extra for a pony ride or to fire the apple canon. Thistleberry Farm is located at 61391 Mayflower Road in South Bend.

  • Visit another world at Shiojiri Niwa
Located at 1000 East Mishawaka Avenue in neighboring Mishawaka, Shiojiri Niwa is known as a "strolling garden," which draws you along the path through the garden by presenting you with continually changing scenery. This Japanese garden features four bridges, more than 20 varieties of plants, and a teahouse pavilion. Water is simulated with gravel, but don't walk on it, or you will disturb the water-like patterns it has been raked into. These gardens represent an exquisitely beautiful look into the world of Mishawaka's Sister City, Shiojiri City in Japan.

  • Celebrate the end of the day with South Bend River Lights
At the end of a long summer day, South Bend's River Lights will remind you how much you appreciate this wonderful community. The interactive lighted display was launched in 2015, in celebration of South Bend's 150 years. The lights are colorful, constantly changing, and have sensors to detect and respond to the motions of passersby.

With South Bend as your backyard, you'll never be bored in the summertime! Contact us today and start your search for your dream home.
