Saint Joseph Beach
When people think of the best beaches in the US, Michigan does not typically top the list. There are more famous beaches in Florida or California – but Michigan's hidden gems are just as beautiful and far more inviting for the average visitor.

No matter whether you're dropping by from a nearby state or searching for Saint Joseph homes for sale, it's important to know you have plenty of recreation options available to you. Silver Beach, just minutes from the center of downtown Saint Joseph, is a place you'll visit again and again.

Silver Beach is One of Michigan's Top Natural Treasures

Right on the shores of Lake Michigan, Silver Beach is part of Silver Beach County Park, an area kept pristine by the locals even though it is within walking distance of great dining and shopping.

With a historic lighthouse and a well-groomed walking trail, it is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy the sea view. Weather is beautiful and the sunset is breathtaking all year long.

With clean water, soft sand, and plenty to do, Silver Beach is one of the top attractions around. Yet, parking is a snap – there are three different options, including some spots right at the beach.

If you're willing to walk a bit, you can even find free spaces just down the street.

Silver Beach Carousel

The Silver Beach Carousel

Silver Beach doesn't attract crowds of visitors from far and wide, but it's an important part of the local community that enjoys a lot of care. In fact, renovations and upgrades have been going on regularly over the last few years – giving guests even more to see and do.

One of the most exciting things that has stood through it all is the Silver Beach Carousel. Silver Beach Carousel is one of the reasons Silver Beach has been called one of the top beaches for families in the US. This historic ride consists of 44 hand-carved and lifelike horses, each one with its own unique character. Six are replicas of the original horses.

Open since 1910, the Carousel has been preserved and restored over the decades. It now invites riders of all ages from fall through spring. It opens at 4:00 PM and closes for the night at 8:30.

The Carousel is just outside the Silver Beach Amusement Park Museum, another thing kids are sure to love. It's full of memorabilia from the local amusement park, running from 1892 to 1971.

Admission to the Museum is free, and one token for the Carousel is $2.

Whirlpool Compass Fountain

The Whirlpool Compass Fountain

Before you call it a day, be sure to visit the Whirlpool Compass Fountain!

This gorgeous fountain is an ever-changing marvel and a "must-see" in the Saint Joseph area. The patterns of water change every few moments, and it runs throughout the day. That makes it a great way for kids of all ages to clean off and enjoy themselves with a real splash!
